RESEARCH: OCR GUIDANCE
When trying to think of how to devise and define my trailer, I went onto the OCR examiner's report and picked up certain ideas on how to actually make the trailer.
The subject specialist said "There are potentially 2 types of trailer. There is the theatrical trailer which for most films, which is between 2 and 2.5 minutes. There is also the teaser trailer which is under a minute, normally about 40 secs long".

PLANNING: BRIEF
We have chosen to complete Brief 2 a promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with:
- A film magazine front cover, featuring the film
- A poster for the film We originally were planning on doing a short film, hence the research into short films below. However, we decided our idea would work more effectively as a trailer as we felt we couldn't cram our entire story into just a short space of time. However, I did feel that the research I put in was good enough in helping me in my future trailer work which is why I have decided to keep the previous work on short films.

SHORT FILM RESEARCH: DIRTY LAUNDRY
Title: Dirty Laundry
Dir: Phil Joanou.
Plot Summary: A vigilante is staying in a bad neighborhood when he encounters a gang terrorizing innocent civilians.
Accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWpK0wsnitc
Mis en scene: setting and location: The short is set in a run down neighborhood of New York like many other Marvel comics. The short primarily takes place on a run down street, although there are scenes that take place within an apartment, a liquor store and a laundromat. The setting helps make the film come to life, showing where the majority of the lower class live. The lack of police around the area show that this neighborhood is completely crime ridden.
Mis en scene: iconography and props- The two props that have the most significance are the lighter and the Jack Daniels bottle. The lighter is used to kill the gang leader but it's perhaps a representation of how the Punisher sees the world. Unlike other Marvel heroes, he's unsympathetic and allows the woman who the gang terrorized to be the judge of his fate. The Jack Daniels bottle serves as his main weapon and is somewhat used for dark comedy as it is actually a very effective weapon.
Mis en scene: colour and lighting- the film generally uses naturalistic lighting to convey the lower class area in which it's portraying. As for the colouring, the film generally uses very muted colours again in order to display the depressing mood and could even be seen as a representation of what the Punisher ultimately sees around him. Most light colours are made to look darker and there is a lot more focus on colours such as black and white.
Mis en scene: make up and costume- In terms of the costume, the majority At the end, the boy unfolds the laundry showing the Punisher's signature shirt. This is mainly to be a nod towards fans of the original comic book series.
Cinematography: The short occasionally uses "shaky cam" for effect in order to give it a more realistic approach. It also uses a low angle shot for the sequence in which the boy is surrounded by the gang in order to show that he's in a weaker position than from the rest of them.
Cinematography: The film uses an extensive use of close ups in order to give a better demonstration of what the character's emotions are. It also uses this through shot reverse shot in order to show the reactions of many of the characters having conversations. A low angle shot is also used when the child is being surrounded by the gang, showing how small and weak he is when compared to the rest of the gang. It is also used when the Punisher has the lighter and the gang leader is on the floor, showing that he has now power over him and the gang leader is now in the place of the little boy.
Title and Credits: At the start, the film uses a old projector like countdown, perhaps as a tribute to many older and grittier action movies. Unlike other short films, there's not even an end credits sequence. The final shot of the film is the Punisher symbol against a black screen

SHORT FILM RESEARCH: POWER/RANGERS
Title: Power/Rangers
Dir: Joseph Khan
Plot summary: A grittier retelling of the Power Rangers
franchise
Accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw5vcUPyL90
Mis en scene: setting and location- the short film is set
sometime in the future in which the Power Rangers were disbanded and a war
rages on. The film has flashbacks to a more modern day period in which two of
the lead characters are gunned down by the bullies from the original TV show.
Mis en scene: iconography and props- For props, it tends to
use props typical in action movies such as guns and nun chucks. This is
primarily due to the hand to hand combat as well as for the battlefield
sequences that try to display. There is a very effective shot at the beginning
where you see a power ranger's helmet on the floor, displaying the intensity
thay goes on within war.
Mise-en-scène: colour and lighting- A large majority of the
film uses fairly dark lighting with a lot of the lighting coming from neon
signs. Much like another science fiction movie Blade Runner, it uses lighting
techniques very present within the neo-noir genre.
Editing: sound and vision- the short uses very quick edits,
especially for the fighting sequences in in order to portray the action better.
As stated before, it primarily uses dark colours, although it uses colour to
distinguish the rangers from each other e.g. the green ranger, the pink ranger.
It also uses more typical editing techniques such as shot reverse shot where
one character is interrogating another character.
Mis en scene: makeup and costume- Generally, the costumes are attempted to be
made somewhat futuristic. It takes inspiration from the original TV show but
attempts to make the costume more grittier and more grounded in reality. The
costumes take inspiration from Starship Troopers and other science fiction
films whilst combining it with the costumes from the original TV show.
Cinematography: The short uses a large number of tracking
shots in order to develop tension in some of the scenes that build up to the
action scenes. It also uses high and low angle shots in order to get a better
view of many of the action scenes
Title and credits: the movie generally abandons the use of
opening credits like many other short films. The only credit used in the
opening is when it says " a film by Joseph Khan". Like other short
films, it tends to abandon opening credits due to the fact that it takes up too
much time, whereas most short films tend to try and get to the "meat and
bone" of the film which its in own story. For this reason, it lacks
opening credits.

SHORT FILM RESEARCH: I'M YOU DICKHEAD
I'm You D*ckhead
Dir:Lucas Testro
Accessed by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAUjt7KWp9A
Plot Summary: In a world where time travel is simple and easy, a man travels back in time to force his 10 year old self so that he can have greater success in his love life in the future.
Mis en scene: setting/location- The film is set in present day, although in an alternate reality where time travel exists. When the protagonist travels back in time, the setting changes to 1985. The location itself changes from a setting within a hospital like environment. It then changes back to the younger self's back garden where he is having his 10th birthday part. In present day, there is also a modern day house where the main character has developed a family and is living with the woman that he always desired.
Mise-en-scène: iconography and props- The director has primarily decided to use props that would be found a typical 10 year old's birthday party. It decides to use the 1980s setting as a way od developing props e.g. the Optimus Prime action figure. For amusement, it includes a quote from Jeff Goldblum from Jurassic Park as it shows how scientific advances should not be used.
Mise-en-scène: colour and lighting- Lighting is generally bright as it's primarily set during the day. Ther lighting is very naturalistic due to the middle class setting of the film. It uses this in order to make the film's setting and story more real, despite its science fiction story. Unlike Power/Rangers which uses dark colours such as black and red, it generally uses naturalistic colours but never overtly uses dark colours as it has a much lighter tone.
Mis en scene: make up and costume- For the most part, costume is generally present day with the protagonist generally wearing modern day clothes such as a shirt and jeans. The 1980s setting does provide for some different clothing, especially from the mother who's wearing clothing from that period.
Cinematography- There is shot reverse shot in order to display conversations between two of the characters. There's also constant over the shoulder's shot to make the audience feel like they're part of the many
Title and credits- Credits are traditional, although for comedic effect, they put the protagonist and the actor who plays him several times due to the different versions that exist of him. However, there are no opening credits in the traditional sense however.
