RESEARCH: DAY ON FILM SET

Over the past couple of weeks ago, I have done work as an extra for an upcoming summer blockbuster film. Whilst I am under NDA agreement and can't reveal what the film was,  it was a very interesting experience that would help me in the process in the making of my own trailer. This was shown in the level of detail present within the making of the. It also was shown in how many takes. The scene would likely make around a minute of screen time but there was an entire 10 hours shoot. This was primarily due to the many different angles that were present within the shoot. Sometimes high angles shots would take place, other times the camera would be pulled on a dolly and for other times a steadicam would be used for the scene. Many different takes were also made due to the different type of direction that the actors needed to take. It was an interesting experience as it gave me clearer ideas on the making of my trailer. In terms of the making of my own trailer, it showed that I needed to provide as much detail as possible in order for it to look perfect, thus making it fully engaging for the audience watching my project.

RESEARCH: CHARACTER PROFILE: ULAR

Ular is the man antagonist for the film. Ular is the owner of the house in which Adam and Eve rent out. Unlike Adam and Eve, Ular had to look wealthy but also extremely eccentric. He is based off the character of the snake in Genesis and we had to make him as mysterious as that character. This can be seen by the fact that he "covers himself up". This includes the sunglasses and hat which makes him look different from the other two characters in the trailer.

RESEARCH: CHARACTER PROFILE ADAM

Adam is the protagonist for Welcome to Eden. Much like Eve, we had to make sure that Adam looked slightly impoverished in order to contrast with Ular's prosperity. This is why he generally wears a worn down hoodie and hat for the film. Adam is driven by the desires of Eve and will do anything to fulfill her need. We had to make Adam a character that one can relate to. We had to make him similar to Eve in order to make it believable that both these characters would fall for one another.

RESEARCH: CHARACTER PROFILE: EVE

The first character that I decided to focus on is Eve. Eve is the boyfriend of Adam and the tenant of the house owned by Ular. She is ultimately temped by the temptations of Ular and is the main reason for the downfall of Adam. She is meant to be the modern representation of Eve from the Genesis story from the Bible.  For the character, we made it sure that they were made to look underprivileged. Whilst we didn't want them to look extremely poor, we made sure that she wasn't allowed to wear nice clothes in order to contrast with the more affluent Ular. This would allow us to make sure that it would seem likely for her to be tempted by Ular due to the way in which she is dressed and her own individual social class. In using theoretical frameworks for Eve , Theodor Ardno's idea of false needs can be used to describe her. She very much wants things that she doesn't really need and this causes friction between her and Adam. In Adorno's own words, she is more satisfied with materialist objectives than her love of Adam.

PLANNING: UPDATE

This lesson, we did a large majority of the treatment and devised the shot list. We added some very strong sequences to our story.
