PLANNING: GOOGLE DOCS/TREATMENT

As a group, we decided to use Google Docs in order to create a more collaborative way of working, both in and out of school time. We used it for our treatment, call sheets and prop list. We found it effective as we were able to edit the document at any point in time and we were able to add our own ideas to it. It allowed for our work to not get too convoluted due to the fact that we were all working together as a team.

RESEARCH: TRAILER END PIECE

Over the past couple of years, trailers have become the most vital part of any movie's marketing campaign. One of the most important factors that is placed within a trailer are the end titles. These ultimately showcase a variety of different things. They sometimes show the release date, details of some of the cast and crew or studio logos. These factors are ultimately helpful in the devising of my own trailer.

Below are four different trailer end pieces. It shows a variety of different ways in which a film trailer can end. Sometimes the trailer will feature the credits of some of the cast as well as major people in the crew e.g. the screenwriters and the director. Other times, they will also . put a release date whether its exact or will say something along the lines of "coming soon".

Some trailers have also started to put an emphasis on social media. For example, the trailer for Allegiant demonstrates this below.

RESEARCH: WHERE WOULD MY TRAILER SITS IN THE MARKETPLACE

Recently, I read an article written by film critic Mark Kermode in the Guardian. In the article, Kermode.
An example is Cary Joji Fukanaga's 2015 film Beasts of no Nation. The movie received a limited theatrical relase but its primary source of distribution was through the online streaming website Netflix. The movie only had a small budget and only had one major actor with Idris Elba. This can be seen as a very good way of distributing an independent movie. Beasts of no Nation was made for under $6 million but still gained a sizable distribution platform.

Social media is another incredibly effective way of getting a movie such as this distributed. Most trailers will tend to be distributed on Youtube as it is a free way of getting the movie to be known by the public. Youtube worked as an effective way for showing our movie opening for our AS opening which makes it an effective distribution and marketing technique.

RESEARCH: AUDIENCES

In order to create our film trailer, I had to decide what sort of audiences would be attracted by it. Through this, I decided to look at many recent movies and brands. They would be attracted by thrillers such as Gone Girl and Drive as well as lavish dramas such as the Great Gatsby, depicting enormous amounts of wealth. However, they will also enjoy blockbuster films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  They will likely wear clothing brands such as Nike and go to restaurants such as Starbucks.
I have created a collage below depicting all these brands below that our audience would likely use and enjoy.

RESEARCH : DROPPING PAPER

We were very much inspired by the scene in the concert documentary Don't Look Back when Bob Dylan is presented as dropping cue cards during the point he sings his song Subterranean Homesick Blues. The scene was meant to represent all the things that Eve wants but is unable to get due to her limited wealth. We thought that this could be a possible idea for of our scenes in the future
